Castleward is celebrating its latest achievement after being awarded the Built for Life commendation.
Following a recent site inspection, and a previous full design review, Compendium Living’s Castleward development scored green in all 12 categories of the Built for Life assessment, which highlights well-designed housing developments.
Work is currently underway on phase one of Castleward, where five acres of land are currently being developed into 164 new homes, approximately 16,500 sq ft of commercial space, a boulevard and a park.
Dave Bullock, Managing Director at Compendium Living, comments: “This is very welcome recognition for what we are trying to achieve with the development of Castleward and demonstrates the high quality build and the care and attention given to designing a development that offers an attractive, practical and sustainable place to call home.
“Following Castleward’s official launch, home buyers and visitors can now step inside the show homes and see for themselves how the development is taking shape.
“Every aspect of Castleward has been designed to meet the needs of today’s home buyers, from the excellent location on the doorstep of Derby city centre to the spacious design of the new homes.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better response from home buyers and the feedback we have received demonstrates that Castleward offers everything that home buyers are looking for.”
Led by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) at the Design Council, Design for Homes and the Home Builders Federation, supported by Nottingham Trent University, Built for Life aims to promote the creation of attractive, functional and sustainable places to live.
Built for Life is based on the new National Planning Policy Framework and the Government’s commitment to build more homes, better homes and involve local communities in planning.
The assessment features 12 questions which examine local facilities, public transport links, local housing needs, the character of the development, how the development is integrated with the existing environment, car parking and more.
Local authorities and developers are encouraged to use Built for Life to stimulate conversations about creating good places to live.
Dave adds: “Our aim with Castleward has always been to create a development that integrates well with its existing surroundings, while also bringing modern new homes to the area.”
A collection of two, three and four-bedroom houses, plus one and two-bedroom apartments are now available to purchase at Castleward.
Homes feature a high specification, including a fully fitted kitchen with integrated cooking appliances and stylish bathroom.
In total, Compendium Living will transform 30 acres of brownfield and under used land between Derby Midland Station and the city centre, bringing 800 new homes and 34,500 sq ft of commercial space to the city and creating an attractive new gateway to the heart of Derby.
Compendium Living was selected as the preferred developer by Derby City Council and the Government’s Homes and Communities Agency.
The project has also achieved certification under the BRE Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) Communities following a voluntary assessment.
